The term "Date Rape" is a commonly used colloquialism for a rape that involves two individuals who know each other. Date rape often involves the use of alcohol or drugs to lower the inhibitions or mental judgment of the victim. Cases in which drugs or alcohol are used to rape an individual are sometimes referred to as drug-facilitated sexual assault. However, a date rape claim can be made without drugs being involved. Any ambiguity regarding the consent of the alleged victim could be grounds for an acquittal, sentence reduction, or case dismissal. If you or a loved one has been accused of date rape, you should contact a rape defense attorney from the Law Offices of MacGregor & Collins, LLP.
